    The Value
    of an Experience

I was fortunate to sit front row at a popular concert not too long ago with my wife, and the experience really got me thinking.  When I was 17 years old, I was working three jobs, and I saw this same band.  I vividly remember complaining about the price of ‘lawn seats’ (the least expensive), wondering how anyone could afford those seats up front, and if they could why on earth would they pay for them? Honestly, it is the same music, for the same band, at the same event - right?!  I can tell you right now it was the same, but with a completely different experience!

I see a lot of posts on social media about how some heating and cooling equipment costs way more, or way less than their competition.  Why do some brands cost so much, compared to the same efficiency or size system as a competitor?  How can some contractors charge more for the same exact equipment and installation?  The answer is easy - they are at the same concert, but offer a different experience!

The most expensive equipment for a Manufacturer offers the best experience to the Contractor:

    • Best Distribution
    • Highest Quality
    • Lowest Failure Rate
    • Greatest Breadth of the product line
    • Top Sales & Service Support/Training

The most expensive installations for a Homeowner typically offer an unrivaled experience, including but not limited to:

    • Industry leading installation & service quality
    • Supreme knowledge and skill for their team locally
    • Complete handling of paperwork (Financing, Permits, Warranty, Utility Rebates, etc)
    • Incomparable based on consumer reviews, feedback, and word-of-mouth
    • Ideal response time for Service, Sales, and Installation

So, 17 year old me did not see the value in the experience of sitting front row.  I took comfort in knowing I paid the least amount of money, for the same experience as everyone around me. What I didn’t understand back then, and I value now, is the difference between the least expensive seats and the ones that offer the best experience.

Yes, it is true: the best experience typically costs the most money, but that was for me to decide! If the worst seats were the only ones I could afford, or the only ones available to me, I may have purchased them thinking it would be better than nothing.  I can tell you for sure, the cheapest seats offer the lowest value proposition when it comes to your experience.  Which seats should you buy?  That is completely your decision, but up to the Seller to offer all of the options!
